New firmware

Hi,
I notice that the activity is back up again so I thought I'd ask:
where can I find the latest version of the firmware/opensprints software?

I'm developing some goldsprints software and I'd love to move to the new firmware if that is what everyone is using now.

I had a look in https://github.com/evanfarrar/opensprints and the version in the master branch is the same as I have, so which branch has the firmware that will be in the next released version?

Also, is that branch where I can get a look at the new software. As much as I am enjoying writing my own it is pretty hard working in isolation.

mph km/h metric system not working

hi guys. i am using ubuntu 9.10 on a usb drive and everything works fine except for the speed display. it's on mph, is there a way to change that to km/h? i've changed to metric system on the configuration screen but it's still displaying mph.

I'm going to order PCB boards anyone else want to jump in?

Also trying to come up with some sort of clever (preferably analog) backup for when the stakes are high, times are close, and racing again is not an appropriate option. Anyway, enjoy the vid. Just For Fun check box not working in race edit screen

Has anyone seen or gotten the "Just for Fun"' option of the race edit screen to work correctly?

What I'm seeing is that if I check the box, the race remains flagged as "for_fun='f'" in the database. I don't see anything obviously wrong with the code that would cause it to not update

The relevant lines are these:

flow { @c = c = check; para("Just for fun?"); click { c.toggle; race.update(:for_fun => true) } }
          @c.checked = race.for_fun

I found another point in the code that uses a similar mechanism to update the "races" table to indicate if a race had been completed, so I'm at a loss as to why this one isn't working.

opensprints, shoes and macosx 10.6 (intel)

I was hoping to have my opensprints dev environment be on my Mac instead of the ubuntu netbook, but I can't get opensprints running. I think the issue is the version of shoes I'm using. The software starts to load, errors about not finding the Arduino, and then errors with a warning and an error and then stops.

Does anyone have guidance on which versions of each of these are needed?

Also, somewhat related, how does the software locate the .conf file? I've placed it in the same dir as the opensprints.rb, but it doesn't appear to be using my type: network line or talking to serproxy.

So the current version of the OpenSprints software is broken temporarily.

Please use Goldsprints FX for the moment until a problem with screen freezing is corrected.

If anyone really needs to use the OpenSprints software, don't use (upgrade to) the current version.

There is a way to roll back to the previous version that works by checking out the source code repository. I can help with that if anyone needs it.

Times only coming through as whole numbers

Looks like it's a little dead over here on the boards, but on the off chance someone is looking out here, maybe you can lend me an ear (eye?).

Recently did a completely clean install on a USB stick (and later on a netbook) using Ubuntu 9.04. We'd previously been running 9.10 and had occasion to redo the machine and figured we'd go to the officially supported version to hopefully clear up a few lingering issues.

Everything went smooth as described in the documentation, but now every time a race is run, racer.finish_time returns a whole number.

I've worked around it for a fast-approaching event by removing the division from this line in race_controller.rb:

racer.finish_time = SENSOR.finish_times[i] / 1000.0

Now I'm just dividing it when it's displayed. Obviously not optimal.

I've never been well versed in Ruby, and I'm even rustier now. Any ideas? Just out of curiosity I replaced the SENSOR.finish_times[i] with a hard coded value, still came out as a whole number with a single decimal place (always showing zero). The whole number is also the time recorded in the Sqlite file. This occurs both w/ the mock and real sensors.

White Race Window Screen/Arduino Startup Errors

Helping a buddy get his brand new opensprints rig up and running with ubuntu 9.04 on a netbook following the wiki to install on a netbook.

Two issues.

1.) On startup, shoes displays

getting version
Timeout getting version
setting length
Timeout setting length
getting version
version: basic-1
setting length
Timeout setting length

2.) When I try to start a race, the window goes blank, the sensors stay red.

Things I've tried, all with the same results as above.

a.) Reformat and reinstall ubuntu and opensprints
b.) apt-get update/upgrade
c.) installed opensprints on a ubuntu 10.04 machine
d.) reflash arduino (the boards were built by opensprints and mailed to us)
e.) download and run latest opensprints source
f.) telnet into /dev/ttyUSB0 and hit g, lights go green, magnets advance race until 20 then lights go red.
g.) multiple sequences of booting up, plugging in arduino, starting software
h.) different combinations of cables, sensors (we have 2), and ports
i.) stopped troubleshooting and waited patiently last night while the website was down.
j.) drank a beer and slept on it to take the edge off of the frustration

Please help! :-)

The OpenSprints installer is currently only compatible with Ubuntu 9.04. If you have an Ubuntu 9.10 bootable flash drive, you must downgrade to 9.04. Repeat the process at http://wiki.opensprints.org/index.php?title=Creating_a_Bootable_Ubuntu_USB_Flash_Drive

When running OpenSprints in Ubuntu 9.10, the horizontal race indicators will not advance across the screen.

hi

i changed from the working system from osx and got a acer netbook.
installed ubuntu-loaded the firmware onto the arduino.checked the sensors with the serial monitor.everthing fine. closed arduino. when i try to open opensprints
there's always this error: Error in /tmp/selfgz6621/lib/shoes.rb line 394
undefined method > for nil:NilClass
i installed the latest opensprints version through synaptic package manager -
version 0.7-1 and ubuntu 10.04
does anyone know what the error could be ?

running parallel to analogue clock

I'm running a tournament in a couple of weeks on an old school roller rig with a big non powered clock.

There actually our cycling club (Exeter Wheelers) competition rollers and date back to the 1950's.

I have an opensprints set of kit and was planning to run it in tandem in the hope that by using opensprints kit - I can do away with the need for a couple of time keepers.

My questions is - I know I'll have to be extreamly accurate calibrating the roller drum circumference so that the real clock and digital clock show the same - but ... has anyone else tried this? - will I have difficulty getting the clocks to calibrate correctly?

It wont look good if the analogue clock says one rider has won, but the computer doesn't agree!
