After rigorous testing and development we had a successful demo of the Salt City Sprints following the Pornography of the Bicycle event.  The highlight was a dead-on tie between LMI owner Jason Copier and LMI messenger Patrick Beecroft -- we will all have to wait until next time to see who wins.

For future events, we are planning a date at Kilby Court , as well as another event for Young Riders, not to mention a showdown at the Pedal Pusher Film Festival. on May 10th.

Trick Throw Down Mash Up

Thanks to everybody that showed up this past Wednesday night at The W Lounge for the first ever Sunday Sprints Trick Night. There were many people competing with a large group of on lookers. Everyone seemed to have a great time and enjoy themselves.

Sunday Sprints is a an event the BFC have been hosting since last summer, combining peoples competitiveness with their speed in 3 events.

The actual race itself, with an overall distance of one city block. This could be as much as 250 meters. At least that sounds right.  As well as "Foot down," a game of pushing people over and being overly destructive towards one another in a playful way.  And because this past Sunday was Easter Sunday we added an easter egg hunt with cash prizes awarded for those people that found the golden eggs.

First of all, I would like to thank everyone that showed up at the first ever Salt City Sprints. Despite computer problems that plagued the sprints all night, it was still a good time and a great turn out. So thank you to everyone that came and I hope that you all had a good time. I would like to give thanks to all of our sponsors, without whom we would have never been able to accomplish so much. Cyclesmith and Wildrose donated some great stuff for our raffle, as well as Dennis Holladay at Raleigh USA that was able to give us a 2008 Raleigh Rush Hour. I also want to thank Scott from LeVeL Components , Rickshaw Bagworks , Hokey Spokes , the whole shop from Guthrie Bicycle , Doug Openshaw, Jonathan Morrison, Calvert Cruz, the bar staff from Urban Lounge, Chase One our DJ for the evening. And last but not least the BFC, you guys really came through for us.

Welcome to Salt City Sprints

January 24th, 2008 will be the premier of Salt Lake City's very first Gold Sprints style indoor races affectionately named Salt City Sprints! The races will take place on a set of Kreitler rollers. This system allows for almost no resistance on the rider, thus allowing them to sprint all out with little holding them back. Your legs do all the work. Racers will compete against their opponent for 250 meters. Your final time will depend on endurance, will and raw power.

B ut let us emphasize that this is an event for everyone! All cyclists, no matter what you ride, are welcome! The Sprints are designed to be more of a chance for those who love to ride to get together and warm-up during the bitter cold. Sign-up now!

A big huge thank you to Guthrie Bicycles for there generous donation. We now have a set of 2008 Trek SOHO bikes for the races. Thanks to Rich, Josh, and Preston for pulling through for the sprints and having faith in us. I have been trying for a while to make Guthrie the unofficial singlespeed/fixed gear hub locally, with some good results.

I have spoken with Scott Hansen of LeVeL Components , and he has been kind enough to help us out with the sprints. This way the bikes that everyone will be riding will have  LeVel hubs in the rear wheels. There are only a few of us here in Salt Lake City that are riding these hubs in our fixed gears. Cal and I have never had any complaints, never had any cog issues. They are great hubs and are well worth it. Thank you so much Scott for your donation to the sprints. Also f you feel like you are particularly fast, and you conquer all that is around you, then maybe, just maybe you'll beat the next guy and win yourself a set of these hubs at the end of the race.
